The Secret Life of Winnie Cox Slavery forbidden love and tragedy spellbinding historical fiction The Quint Chronicles edition by Sharon Maas Literature Fiction eBooks

A thoroughly enjoyable read if you are at all interested in the British empire's colonial history and their penchant for enslaving people of colour, getting rich from the resources of countries they claimed as their own and the outright racism supported by white superiority thinking, captured beautifully here. After slavery was outlawed, the owners of production further enslaved others under the term 'indentured labour' which is a big part of this story and a fact of history that, like slavery, contributed to our modern world. Winnie Cox is a young woman who falls in love with a man of colour during a period of history when such a relationship was almost impossible, and downright dangerous, for the both of them. The fact the relationship succeeds celebrates all those people in the world who are brave enough to love and respect each other regardless of the colour of their skin, and those who still face the wrath of some societies that still cling to hatred even today.

The Secret Life of Winnie Cox Slavery forbidden love and tragedy spellbinding historical fiction The Quint Chronicles edition by Sharon Maas Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book is based on a white girl that falls in love with a black boy and what she is willing to do to marry him. There are many hardships and everyone is against the the match. They love each other but he continues to try to break it off. She comes from a wealth family and he is from a poor family.
I must admit I wasn't sure about this book at first but now I am looking forward to reading the next one.
I chose this rating because of the subject-man's inhumanity to man. Only a few people in this world have the courage and insight to see the truth of God's creation-a reflection of Him in all the different races everywhere. Winnie fought against bigotry against all odds and learned how to approach her world , finally, with a mature understanding. ...a super story!
I loved this book, unfortunately I had read the others in this sequel before I saw this book, However it was pretty neat to read parts in this book and know how things turned out. A story of the past and on the Islands too. If You read this book first You will want to get all the others in this series. A strong woman with powerful thoughts and once Her mind was made up, She acted it out.
This would win the Oscars, if Sharon allows it to be playwritten, and orchestrated! Beautiful scenery, that even just on paper reminds me of Ghandi, when the train arrives and all the Hindi Indians are standing waiting.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought the author did a lot of research on the life on a sugar plantation in New Guiana in the early 1900's. I wanted to continue the story and ordered the 2nd book in the series. I like the author's style of writing.
The heroine of the book is a 16-year old girl. So her feelings are childish and so is the plot. The writer is good. Were it not for this, I would have stopped reading. It's interesting to learn about the British Guyana history through the novel.
Wow, truly a grabyoubythecollar emotionally soaked story of love and betrayal. I love how Winnie stood so staunchly for her love of this poor segregated black man. Although these adverbs only describe his condition that he lived in. I can truly see how she could have fallen in love with a powerhouse that George was in his being this man is the kind of man every woman would desire and be drawn to. This story intrigued me and I literally could not put this book down every page just got more engrossing than the next and I had to know what would be the out come. Here is the cliffhanger that makes you have to buy the other book because if they decide to marry then yes I wonna know the rest of their story and find out if love really does conquer all.
