Whether I'll Live or Die Stacy Eaton Books

...it pulled at my heart and emotions. Despite the pain that was experienced by the main protagonist, I couldn't help but keep turning the pages. It was one of those reads where the author has breathed such life into her characters that they stay with you long after you close the book. Partially to credit is the fact, I couldn't help but feel a sadness in my soul knowing that this happens in real life. It contradicts a healthy person's ethical and moral conscience.

It deals with a "taboo" subject, that of domestic abuse. It is a private crime that casts shame on the abused. But, it doesn't have to stay behind closed doors. People can help. People do help. In fact, the author is donating a portion of the proceeds from this book to Domestic Violence Centres.

This is the first book I read that was written in first point of view for two differently named characters. I was wondering how the two females--Amanda and Nicole were going to marry together. I was quite impressed by the author's shocking twist.

The author captured the isolation, fear, and guilt the abused must undergo. It showed how these victims get caught in a spiral of self-hate and low self-esteem. They think the abuse is their fault--they are worthless and being punished for being them. It's this element that is heartbreakingly true.

However, the book also shows the power and strength of the human spirit to rise about such suppression. Highly recommend.

Whether I'll Live or Die Stacy Eaton Books Reviews

This novel was submitted to me for an honest review by the author.

This third novel by Stacy Eaton has received excellent reviews. Many use the words, "compelling", "gripping", and "heart wrenching". They are all very good descriptions of this novel. I can only say this book grabbed my heart from page one.

First we meet Amanda, an attractive young woman, with a good job, a best friend named Angela, and what seems at first glance to be a normal, happy life. She is drawn into a relationship with a very attractive man, who seemingly has the same interests, and cares for her. As the relationship continues, small things creep in to make her uncomfortable. He is verbally abusive and belittling, which escalates to physical abuse. Amanda leaves. She is protected by a friend from the gym she goes to, and their relationship moves to sex, and living together. This relationship spirals down the same sad road of abuse, ending with a decision that breaks Amanda's heart, and her spirit. She leaves again.
Next we meet Nicole, a recent graduate of the Police Academy, in a small town in Pennsylvania. Nicole sees a bright future, she has many friends, and a thirst for justice. We follow her as she grows into a respected officer in the community, and with her fellow police officers. She finds love and security with Colton, an officer in another division. These two women come together in a startling conclusion.

Ms. Eaton has brought the sadness of abuse in our society to us, in a fictionalized version , following two different women who seem to have no connection. The abuse to women, men, children and even innocent animals is not fiction.

Thank you Ms. Eaton for this excellent story of a very heartbreaking fact of life.
I have just finished this book and had to immediately write a review praising the authoress. Sadly this story is all to familiar with my life and like the main character, karate also helped pull me out of that nasty pit of abuse and self hatred. The way this story was told was unique and it engages you right from the start. The characters were all so real. I just don't know what to say, I am so choked up. It brought back memories and feelings that I had buried in my mind and thought I had buried forever. All I can say is please read this book! And be there for someone if you can.
In this book, Stacy Eaton takes on the ambitious project of telling a double story. I thought the subject matter was well handled, although at times it was easy to become frustrated with Amanda for her lack of self-preservation. After she got her butt handed to her by the first offensive meat-head, one would have almost expected her to wise up. I have taken psychology courses and I do understand the mentality described here. Still, I felt that the author made Amanda seem weaker than she should have. It is not just timid women who lime to be the less dominant one in the relationship that go through abuse. As the author points out in the beginning people of either sex, any race, religion, social standing, etc. can suffer at the hand of an abuser. I wondered as I followed Amanda's journey why she would allow a boyfriend, a "friend" and later a husband to do this to her when she had every opportunity to not repeat the mistakes of the past. I can't see her following the course of needing to stay with an abuser as it didn't seem that her and the first boyfriend had been dating long at all. She was only nineteen, came from a good family who cared for her and didn't fit the profile of a woman who had suffered mistreatment for so long that she didn't know any other way. The secondary story line in this book was from a female officer's perspective and I wasn't able to get into that story as far. I thought the character of Amanda was written much better.

I respect what the author has done here in trying to raise awareness. I thought this book was pretty well executed and it was moving. It is about a serious topic and should be given proper credit for helping others to see what some women go through.
